Fatayat NU calls on youth to tackle radicalism

Fatayat NU called on young generations to tacke radicalism. The young women organization encouraged also colled for the importance of the young generations to be the nation's  patriots and responsible religious adherents.

Young age is a time of looking for identity and the spirit of burning. Never let the great potential be used by the radical groups willing to teach terrorism.

Chairwoman of Fatayat NU Muzaenah Zein made the remarks at a workshop taking up issues on "The Role of Youth in Tackling Religious Radicalism For the Integrity of NKRI".

The workshop was held by the Central Java's Fatayat NU in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs in Semarang recently.

"We encourage young people to be wary of radical groups. We call on the members of Fatayat NU who are mostly young mothers to give more attention to their children and or students," she said, adding that they were vulnerable to be trapped in misunderstanding and social relationships.

While chairwoman of the Central Java's Fatayat NU Khizanaturrohmah being one of  speakers at the forum said  that clerics (kiai) had called on all NU followers to continously deal with any possible threat posed by transnational Islamic movements.

She added that since the beginning Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) had always maintained the unity and integrity of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

"Not long ago we were reminded of so-called the Jihad Resolution Carnival a milestone event to commemorate November 10, 1925 in Surabaya, namely a jihad to defend the Indonesia's sovereignty from Britain and America that would facilitate the Dutch to colonize again in the time, "she said. (mkf)
