Lakpesdam NU trains "Multicultural Preachers"

the Institute for Human Resources Study and Development of Nahdlatul Ulama (Lakpesdam NU) of Serang in cooperation with the Institute for Community Service (LPM) of the Sultan Maulana  Hasanuddin (SMH) State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) Banten held a workshop on the Islamic preaching in terms of multiculturalism. The forum will be held at the Rector's hall of the  IAIN SMH Banten on Tuesday (17/1).

The training will be participated by the preachers across the Serang regency and will be facilitated by the Deputy Secretary General of the Central Board of NU H Imdadun Rahmat, and Chairman of the Lakpesdam NU of Banten Subhan Mughni.

Chairman of the Lakpesdam NU of Serang Masykur Wahid said, the training for the preachers was considered important to sow the spirit of local wisdom of each preaching that will be delivered by the preachers.

"The training for preaching multiculturalism (values) will review the importance of the wisdom of a preacher in response to (various) local cultural phenomena. Because Islam teaches the ethics of wise preaching.," Masykur said here on Sunday (15 / 1).

In addition, the training will also review the strategies of effective preaching that were ever undertaken by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions, the earlier scholars, the (nine) saints, including the methods of contemporary preaching.

"When referring to previous scholars, the Nine Saints (Walisongo) for example, even the Prophet himself was preaching wisely. How did they accommodate local traditions and cultures without violating the rules of Islam," he said.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of Lakpesdam NU of Serang Dedi Sunardi added that the training was also aimed to seed the preachers' awareness about the importance of peace and tolerance as such a bridge for the integrity of the nation. (nam)
