Kedungpring MWC NU to help flood victims

Following the heavy rains Bengawan Solo River has overflowed a number of areas such as Solo, Madium, Ngawi, Bojonegoro, and Lamongan. At least there were some six districts such as Laren, Glagah, Karangbinagun, Maduran, and sekaran in the regency were inundated.

Chairman of the Kedungpring’s Nahdlatul Ulama Branch Representative Council Board (MWC NU), Drs Khamim Baidlowie, MM, told NU Online by phone on Tuesday (01/01).<>

Hamim, who was newly installed as the chairman of executive board of MWC NU Kedungpring several weeks ago and attended by the General Chairman of the PBNU KH Hasyim Muzadi said, he would soon help victims in the flood-affected areas.

"On account of the overflowing of Bengawan Solo river and the dike break, at least six districts and more than 120 villages in Lamongan regency have been inundated," Hamim said.

The education practitioner added, in collaboration with the Nahdlatul Ulama Branch Board (PCNU) of Lamongan, the relief would immediately be distributed to the flood victims.

"We would present the relief to the flood victims through the PCNU because it does know which region is both really and immediately in need of the relief," he said, adding that the flood had paralyzed economy of the local residents.

He called on local authorities to "soon build such stronger dikes and take appropriate measures in dealing with the flood victims." (dar)
