"In addition to studying religious books, pesantren circles should also focus more the importance of contemporary studies, especially in addressing the need of pesantren themselves," he told NU Online here on Saturday (28/11).
He said that religion littered fully with both moderate and humanistic values had even been put aside by those claiming themselves as muslims.
"Religious teachings are no longer appreciated instead of being practiced as such an awareness of being muslims. It is a phenomenon that must be taken into account by pesantren in propagating the teachings," he said.
According to Kiai Haris, the phenomenon was due to the ignorance of muslims themseves in studying and practicing their religious values.
"Religious books are no longer opened instead of being studied and practiced by muslims. All this will certainly bring misfortune
to their children, grandchildren and next generations," he said.
He also called on pesantren circles to keep pursuing knowledge and noble characters in addition to continuing the struggle of clerics in propagating religious values for the betterment. (masdar)
