General Chairman of the Central Board of Nahdlatul Ulama  (PBNU) KH Said Aqil Siroj expressed his pride for Muslimat NU for having played many roles in the empowerment of women and served the nation.

"We should be proud of Muslimat NU, a NU women movement that has devoted itself to the nation and the country in accordance the teachings of Ahlusunnah wal Jamaah," Siroj said on the sidelines of an inauguration of the  Board of Management of Muslimat NU for 2011-2016 period.

To the board members, Siroj said that Indonesia could be considered an Islamic world gate in the East which has to deal with the two great powers, namely China and Austsralia.
"They're not restricting, but they do not like Islam to develop," he said, adding that such condition was one of challenges that must be dealt with the NU autonomous body.

Siroj called on the Muslimat NU to take into account of the importance of using moral approaches in facing any possible challenge as well as demonstrating a peaceful Islam as a blessing for the universe.

"We need to firstly command what is right before forbidding what is wrong," Siroj said.

He added that moderate ways (tawassuth), as adopted by NU, were a difficult effort and need a sacrifice continually because of the tendency of people to commit extreme acts.
"Disputing and divorcing are always easier than maintaining good relations," he said.

He also appealed for the Muslimat NU cadres who "remain silent" to think to develop and improve a harmonious religious life in addition to actively participating in various fields. (mkf)
